Vol. 406 No. 3

Written Answers. - CFC Gas Extractor Machines.

Eric J. Byrne

Ceist:

218 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment if CFC gas extractor machines, one of which is in the ownership of Wexford County Council, can be aquired by county councils; if the cost of same can be recouped from his Department; if he will outline the position pertaining in County Dublin; and if any request has been received from either Dublin City Council or Dublin County Council on this matter.

Many local authorities have already purchased equipment to extract CFCs used as coolants in refrigerators with the aid of a 100 per cent grant provided by my Department in 1990. Similar grants are available this year also.

No specific requests from Dublin Corporation or Dublin County Council for this purpose have been received in my Department. However, discussions are continuing between my Department and those local authorities, with a view to the provision by them of facilities for the recovery of CFCs from refrigeration equipment in the Dublin area as quickly as possible.
