Vol. 406 No. 3

Written Answers. - Haemophiliacs' Compensation.

Tom Kitt

Ceist:

255 Mr. T. Kitt asked the Minister for Health if he will outline his response to the request for compensation submitted to him by the Irish Haemophilia Society for the 103 people with haemophilia who have been infected with the HIV virus.

I met the Irish Haemophilia Society on 9 January 1991 to discuss any proposals they may have to relieve hardship among their numbers affected by the HIV virus. In the course of that meeting I invited them to make a written submission to me in the matter. This submission was received on 22 January 1991. A number of matters arising from the submission require detailed consideration and in view of this I was not in a position to respond by 24 February as requested by the society. I advised the society of this in writing on 15 February and assured them that I was taking all possible steps to ensure a speedy response and that I would be in touch with them in the near future. In expect to be in a position to respond to the society's submission shortly.
