Vol. 406 No. 3

Written Answers. - Access for Disabled Persons.

Dick Spring

Ceist:

44 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Health if he will outline any proposals he has to improve access to public buildings for disabled persons; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

232 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health the steps he has taken to ensure that all health agency buildings are accessible to the disabled; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 44 and 232 together. The question of installing facilities in health agency buildings to improve access for disabled persons is a matter for the health agencies concerned in the first instance. I fully accept the need for suitable access facilities for the disabled and my Department ensure that this requirement is reflected in the development briefs that are prepared in consultation with health boards and other agencies for the design of health capital building projects.
