Vol. 406 No. 3

Written Answers. - Bantry Bay Harbour Authority.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

119 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for the Marine the estimated costs of operating Bantry Bay Harbour Authority.

Bantry Bay Harbour Commissioners are statutorily required to take all proper measures for the management, control and operation of Bantry Bay Harbour. Revenue to fund these requirements is derived from tonnage and goods rates levied on shipping. The commissioners are expected to operate as a commercial undertaking and to be financially self-supporting. While difficult at this stage to estimate with any degree of accuracy the annual costs of operating Bantry Bay Harbour, I am hopeful that revenue generated by the commissioners will be sufficient to meet these costs.
