Vol. 406 No. 3

Written Answers. - An Post Agency Fees.

Austin Currie

Ceist:

128 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Finance the amount paid by his Department in agency fees to An Post for the last financial year for which figures are available; whether discussions are currently taking place between his Department and An Post on an extension of agency business; if alternative proposals for the handling of this business have come from Telecom Éireann; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The total amount paid in 1989 — the latest year for which figures are available — by the Department of Finance to An Post in agency fees was £12.6 million. Discussions on the specific question of developing further the agency business carried on by An Post for the National Treasury Management Agency (NTMA) — which now exercises the borrowing and debt management powers of the Minister for Finance — are ongoing. The NTMA has not received in this context any proposals from Telecom Éireann.
