Vol. 406 No. 3

Written Answers. - Liquid Milk Prices.

John V. Farrelly

Ceist:

136 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline (a) the price of liquid milk paid by the dairies and co-ops to farmers, (b) the price being charged by the dairies and co-ops to (1) supermarkets and (2) small shopkeepers; the profit margins being made by the dairies and co-ops; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The price paid to the producer of liquid milk is the subject of voluntary agreements between the processors and producers. I understand that the last such agreement results in a price per gallon to the producer of 86.01 pence for the months of April, May, June, July and August and 103.51 for the other months.

The wholesale price of milk is a matter for the commercial interests involved.

I have no information on profit margins made from liquid milk sales by the dairies and co-ops.
