Vol. 406 No. 7

Written Answers. - Internal Market Directives.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

147 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Labour whether in respect of the completion of the Internal Market by 1992, he will outline in respect of his Department (1) which directives are his responsibility, (2) the directives which have now been passed, (3) the draft directives which remain outstanding and (4) when these outstanding draft directives will be passed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As I indicated in a reply to a similar question on 24 October, 1989, my Department are responsible for three of the directives mentioned in the White Paper on the completion of the Internal Market. All three directives have been adopted. Details of these measures are as follows:

Council Directive 85/467 relating to restrictions on the marketing and use of PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls), which was adopted on 1 October 1985.

Council Directive 85/610 relating to restrictions on the marketing and use of asbestos, which was adopted on 20 December 1985.

Council Directive 88/379 relating to classification, packaging and labelling of dangerous preparations, which was adopted on 8 June 1988.
