212 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health the instructions which have been given by him to health boards to undertake family assessments for the purpose of preparing home study reports for couples who wish to adopt abroad; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department have notified the health boards that I am anxious for them to begin carrying out these assessments as soon as possible. Discussions are ongoing between my officials and officers of the health boards with a view to the boards undertaking this work from 1 April next.
