Vol. 406 No. 7

Written Answers. - Dún Laoghaire-Holyhead Ferry Service.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

31 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if he has considered the case made to him by the South Dublin Tourist Association concerning the need to retain the Dún Laoghaire-Holyhead car ferry service; whether he is committed to retaining this service; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I recently met representatives of the Dún Laoghaire and South Dublin Tourist Association concerned about the future of the Dún Laoghaire-Holyhead car ferry service operated by Sealink Stena Line.

I was able to assure the association that Sealink Stena Line had expressed to me their commitment to maintaining services on this route. The Government, for their part, remain committed to the maintenance and co-ordinated development of all our access transport services, whether by sea or air, in the interests of promoting trade and tourism.
