Vol. 406 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Kildare Estate.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

102 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance whether his Department accept responsibility for the fencing of lands at Barrettstown Castle, Ballymore Eustace, County Kildare, or if the fencing is the responsibility of the tenant; if his attention has been drawn to the local unease caused by poor fencing of the castle lands thereby resulting in trespass; if he intends to take any action; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As trustees for the Barrettstown Estate, the Commissioners of Public Works have responsibility for the castle and lands. The commissioners and adjoining land owners have shared responsibility for ensuring that boundary fencing is adequate to prevent all farm-stock straying. In this regard the commissioners have an ongoing programme for fence maintenance and improvement. The commissioners are not aware of any local unease caused by poor fencing.

Ceist:

103 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the number of tenders received in respect of the letting of the lands at Barrettstown Castle, Ballymore Eustace, County Kildare; whether the current year's letting arrangement represents a financial increase for the State over the previous years' arrangements; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

No tenders have yet been received for the 1991-1992 letting of grazing rights. An advertisement inviting tenders appears in today's local provincial newspaper.
