Vol. 407 No. 1

Written Answers. - Brucellosis Infected Equines.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

148 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if ERAD have statutory authority to compel herd owners to slaughter brucellosis infected equines without offering compensation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There is no provision under the brucellosis eradication scheme for compensation for equines infected with brucellosis. Owners are not compelled to slaughter infected equines. However, it is advisable on veterinary grounds that such animals are not retained on a holding with cattle.
