Ceist:321 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education whether she has considered introducing permanent student representation on VEC boards; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Student Representation on VEC Boards.
Members of VECs are elected by the relevant local rating authority in accordance with the terms of the Vocational Education Act, 1930. Under section 8 (4) of that Act, a local authority shall have regard to the interest and experience in education of the person proposed for VEC membership.
A student representative may, therefore, be elected to a VEC if the local authority consider it appropriate.
