Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

322 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education the action she intends to take to ensure the continued functioning of Wexford town vocational school in the light of the notice of intent by the Teachers Union of Ireland to withdraw members from substandard classrooms.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

323 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education if she has satisfied herself that all classrooms currently being used in Wexford town vocational school comply with all fire and safety regulations; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

324 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education if she will outline (1) the current complement of classrooms available to pupils in the town of Wexford vocational school and (2) the designated use of each of these classrooms; if she has satisfied herself that each classroom is suitable for its designated use; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

325 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education if she will outline the number of pupils both male and female attending Wexford vocational school; the number of toilets available for male and female students; and if she has satisfied herself with this provision.

I propose to take the Questions Nos. 322, 323, 324 and 325 together.

As I stated in my reply to the Deputy's previous questions on this matter on 26 February 1991 and following my recent visit to the school, I am fully aware of the accommodation situation at Wexford vocational school. My Department's review of the development proposed for the school has not yet been fully completed but the Deputy may wish to know that I am meeting a deputation from the town of Wexford VEC this afternoon to discuss the matter.
Upkeep and maintenance of vocational schools and compliance with fire and safety regulations are matters for the vocational education committee and the local authority in the first instance.
