Vol. 407 No. 1

Written Answers. - Civil Service Employment of Disabled Persons.

Noel Dempsey

Ceist:

119 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Finance the plans which are in place to hold competitions for disabled persons in the Civil Service this year.

An open competition held by the Civil Service Commissioners for positions as clerical assistant, disabled, is currently under way. Further competitions reserved for disabled persons are being considered.

Noel Dempsey

Ceist:

120 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Finance if there are any plans envisaged to arrange for a special promotional structure for disabled persons within the Civil Service.

A special promotional structure for disabled persons within the Civil Service is not intended. Disabled persons have available to them the possibility of advancement to higher posts in the same way as all other members of the particular grades in which they may be serving.

Noel Dempsey

Ceist:

121 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Finance if he has any plans to introduce competitions for promotions at administrative level in the Civil Service for disabled persons.

It is not proposed to introduce special competitions for promotions at administrative level in the Civil Service for disabled persons. Provided that they have the requisite length of service and have been satisfactory in all relevant respects disabled persons are eligible to compete at competitions for promotions at administrative level in the same way as other members of their grades.

Ceist:

122 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Finance if he has any plans to employ more clerical officers from the 1986 disabled persons competition.

Thirty-one assignments have been made from the 1986 clerical officer competition. A further group of candidates who qualified at the interview stage of the competition may be appointed if suitable vacancies arise.

Noel Dempsey

Ceist:

123 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Finance the number of civil servants employed by the State following special competitions for disabled persons who have been promoted since joining the service; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Separate statistics are not kept in respect of appointees from competitions for disabled persons who subsequently gain promotion in the Civil Service. The promotions would be recorded similarly to the promotion of any other member of the particular grade.
