139 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for Finance whether there was any budget agreed with the contractors prior to works being commenced on the old UCD School of Engineering, Merrion Street, Dublin 2; and, if so, the amount of the budget.
The reconstruction and refurbishment of Government Buildings was undertaken and completed in accordance with the Department of Finance 1983 Circular relating to the control of costs of capital projects. Following competition a contract was placed with McInerney Contracting the lowest bidder, in March 1991 for £13.2 million excluding VAT, professional fees and contingency sums. The total budget was £17.6 million including these items. There will be no excess on this amount and I anticipate a saving on the budget when the final account is agreed.
