Vol. 407 No. 2

Written Answers. - Agriculture House.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

36 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline the steps he has taken to have repairs carried out to the defects in Agriculture House, Kildare Street, Dublin 2; whether the technical studies have been completed; if not, the reason for same; the estimated cost of the remedial works; when such works will be undertaken; the length of time which they will last; if, in the interim period, he has plans to paint or otherwise improve the unsightly appearance of the temporary protective structures around the building; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A preliminary report prepared for the Commissioners of Public Works by a firm of consulting structural engineers was completed recently. It identifies the causes of spalling of concrete and cracking in some panels and outlines a number of possible solutions.

Discussions are now in progress with the consultants to determine the most appropriate method of repair and to draw up a programme for its implementation.
The remedial works will be undertaken as quickly as possible but I am not in a position at this stage to say when they will commence, how long they will take or what they will cost.
