Ceist:82 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education if she will outline the number of remedial teachers to be appointed in 1991; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

As the Deputy will be aware, major improvements in the provision of additional teaching posts have been agreed under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress.
As part of the improvements in helping the disadvantaged, 80 additional posts of remedial teachers in primary schools will be provided.
These appointments will be made following the collection of data and information by my Department's primary inspectorate from schools. These 80 posts will then be allocated on the basis of priority of need, as indicated by the information collected by the Department's inspectorate.
