Vol. 407 No. 4

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Ceist:

41 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Finance the present position regarding the plans for decentralisation of a Government Department to Cork; the engineering discussions he has had with interested parties; when such a move will take place; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Government in 1990 announced their decision to extend the decentralisation programme to five additional centres throughout the country. I am pleased to say that Cork city is one of these additional centres.

Details regarding the acquisition of a suitable site, the time scale for completion of the extended programme, the Departments involved and the number of staff to be transferred to each of the centres, are at present under active consideration.
