Vol. 407 No. 4

Written Answers. - Gurteen (Sligo) School.

Edward Nealon

Ceist:

103 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that (1) her Department which had previously accepted a tender for the building of a permanent structure to replace pre-fab classrooms at Gurteen vocational school, County Sligo are now rescinding this decision and are proposing replacement pre-fabs and (2) the school is in an extremely exposed elevated location and that previous experience indicates that insisting on pre-fabs will prove a false economy; and if, in view of these considerations, she will now sanction the permanent structure extension.

No approval was issued by my Department for the acceptance of a tender for the provision of new permanent accomodation at Gurteen vocational school. The County Sligo Vocational Education Committee were authorised to invite tenders for the provision of two prefabricated classrooms at the school. Tenders were obtained by the VEC for both prefabricated classrooms and a permanent building and approval was then sought for the provision of the permanent building.
