111 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Defence the reason a person (details supplied) in Limerick is not being awarded a disability pension since his discharge from the Army in June 1989 when the medical condition which brought about his discharge arose directly from his duty in the Army; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Following his discharge from the Permanent Defence Force in 1989, the person in question applied for a disability pension under the Army Pension Acts. His application was referred to the Army Pensions Board, which is the statutory body appointed under those Acts to report on such applications. The board reported that the applicant did not satisfy the conditions for the award of a disability pension in that his disablements were not due to a wound, an injury or a disease attributable to his service in the Permanent Defence Force. If Deputy Noonan has any further information regarding the applicant which should be taken into account he should forward it and I will have his application re-examined.
