Vol. 408 No. 2

Written Answers - Sports Centres Funding.

Jim Kemmy

Ceist:

24 Mr. Kemmy asked the Minister for Education the moneys which have been allocated to regional and local sports centres by her Department in 1991; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

In 1988 the Government approved a multi-annual capital programme for the provision of sports facilities at national, regional and local level with an approved total capital budget at £27.5 million. The following locations have been designated as regional centres: Cork; Athlone; Galway, Sligo; Waterford; Limerick; Tallaght National Basketball Arena; Baldoyle National Badminton Centre and Morton Stadium, Santry. In addition, local sports centres are being established at various designated locations countrywide.

Progress on the planning and construction of these centres in any year determines the annual financial allocation required. The total capital allocation for 1991 in respect of all these projects is £10.454 million.
