Vol. 408 No. 2

Written Answers - Limerick Colleges Accommodation.

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

57 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Education if she will outline (1) the present position in relation to her plans to provide proper accommodation for the COACT Colleges in Limerick (2) the work which will take place in 1991 and (3) the timetable she envisages for carrying out the full development.

The present position with regard to the proposed physical development programme for COACT is that I have sanctioned; the appointment of consultants to undertake a feasibility study of the Georges St. site; the exchange of land between City of Limerick Corporation and the vocational educational committee at Moylish to facilitate the proposed new extension; the appointment of consultants to prepare a development control plan and the planning of an extension which will include a new library, lecture rooms and consequential works to the existing building at Moylish.

I have also set aside £1.3 million under the Structural Fund programme for physical developments at COACT so that construction work can be commenced immediately on completion of the planning stages.

The first phase of the programme will commence immediately and will be completed in 1993. The remaining phases will be considered in the light of the availability of capital resources.
