113 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline the steps he proposes to take to prevent a Dutch based company operating a telephone sales scam on precious jewels which has claimed many victims in recent times in this country.
114 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Justice if he will make a statement on recent reports that Irish nationals are buying precious jewels abroad in order to evade VAT payments.
It is not the practice for Ministers for Justice to make statements to the House about specific Garda investigations or inquiries except in singular instances where the circumstances are so exceptional that such a course is deemed appropriate.
I propose to say only that I have been informed by the Garda authorities that they are aware of the allegations raised in the questions and the matter is receiving appropriate attention.
