Vol. 408 No. 2

Written Answers - Ashford (Limerick) School.

Michael Finucane

Ceist:

131 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the concern of the parents of pupils attending Ashford primary school, County Limerick at the loss of a teacher, in view of the fact that they have the required number of pupils for the retention of the second assistant teacher; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

As the Deputy will be aware the staffing of national schools for a particular year is determined by the enrolment in the school on the 30 September of the previous year. This is in accordance with the agreement between the Government and the INTO under the programme for National Recovery.

As the enrolment in Ashford primary school dropped to 62 on 30 September 1990, from 71 on 30 September 1989 the second assistant teacher has been placed on the diocesan panel for redeployment to another school in accordance with the Rules for National Schools.
