Vol. 408 No. 4

Written Answers. - Armed Robberies.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

119 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice the total number of armed robberies in 1990 compared to 1985; if there has been any noticeable change in aggravated burglaries or robberies; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The information sought is set out in the following tabular statement. The figures indicate a decrease in the incidence of these crimes and in particular a very significant reduction in armed raids. I welcome this decrease which I attribute to the measures taken by the Garda authorities to deal with the problem.

The Garda authorities have informed me that they will continue to keep the situation under review.
