Vol. 408 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dublin Motor Tax Office.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

125 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make the necessary funds available to enable Dublin Corporation to open a motor licence/taxation office to serve the north city and county of Dublin.

I have no proposals for the creation of an additional motor taxation branch office in Dublin. In fact, Dublin is the only liccensing authority which has two motor taxation offices; River House, Chancery Street, on the north side and a branch office in the Nutgrove Shopping Centre, Rathfarnham, on the south side.

Motorists who do not wish to visit either of the motor tax offices, or those living some distance from the offices, have the option of renewing their motor tax through the free postal facility provided by my Department and which is being used by a significant proportion of motorists. The vehicle registration unit of my Department sends a reminder notice to each vehicle owner about two weeks in advance of the expiry of the existing tas disc. This notice can be used as a tax renewal form and it contains preprinted details of the vehicle, including the appropriate quarterly, half-yearly and annual rate of tax. The form is accompanied by a post-paid reply envelope, addressed to the local motor tax office.
