Vol. 408 No. 4

Written Answers. - Midwives' Fees.

Nuala Fennell

Ceist:

143 Mrs. Fennell asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the fact the current fee of £42 to a domiciliary midwife for a home birth has not changed in 20 years and is inadequate payment for what is in effect 100 hours of work; if he will agree to increase this amount substantially; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The fees payable to midwives providing domiciliary care under the maternity and infant care scheme are revised in accordance with all national and special pay awards granted to nursing staff.

The fee per service stands at £51.67 with effect from 1 May 1991.
