195 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the special problems and factors at Our Lady of Lourdes national school, Inchicore, Dublin 8 she will maintain the present staff establishment at this school; and if she will ensure that notification (details supplied) to two members of the staff to seek panel rights will be withdrawn; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
As the Deputy will be aware the staffing of national schools for a particular year is determined by the enrolment in the school on 30 September of the previous year. This is in accordance with the agreement between the Government and the INTO under the Programme for National Recovery.
The staffing of a national school is determined by the enrolment on 30 September of the previous year. In the case of Our Lady of Lourdes national school, Inchicore, there were 361 pupils enrolled on 30 September 1990, which warrants a staff of principal plus 11 assistants for the 1991-92 school year.
The school will also have the services of two full-time remedial teachers and a concessionary teacher under the special scheme of teaching assistance for schools serving disadvantaged areas. The staffing needs of the school will be reviewed in the light of enrolments at the beginning of the coming school year.
