Vol. 408 No. 4

Written Answers. - Processing of Grants.

Paul McGrath

Ceist:

86 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if applications for special beef premia and suckler cow grants are processed independently; if non-compliance with the regulations on one scheme will disqualify a farmer from any other scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Paul McGrath

Ceist:

88 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the number of applications for the special beef premium which have been (a) disqualified and (b) paid at a reduced amount in the current year; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose taking Questions Nos. 86 and 88 together.

Applications under the special beef premium and suckler cow premium schemes are processed separately by my Department and failure to comply with the requirements of one scheme has no particular bearing on eligibility under the other scheme unless an applicant fails to comply with a requirement that is common to both schemes.

It is too early yet to say how many 1990 special beef premium scheme applications will be disqualified or will result in a reduced payment. I am looking very closely at the problems which have arisen to see whether there is any possible solution.
