Vol. 408 No. 6

Written Answers. - Customs Clearance Companies.

William Cotter

Ceist:

51 Mr. Cotter asked the Minister for Finance if customs clearance companies will be compensated for loss of business after the introduction of the Single Market; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Customs clearance companies are private sector undertakings whose services are utilised by exporters and importers to prepare and process trade related customs doumentation. There are no special arrangements to compensate directly such undertakings for loss of business arising from the abolition of fiscal frontiers for intra-Community trade associated with the completion of the Single Market. For further information I would, however, refer the Deputy to the Official Report of 11 December 1990 (Cols. 1845-6 refers) which also deals with this matter.
