54 Mr. Cosgrave asked the Minister for Finance whether rolled grass turf currently being laid in the Custom House was supplied from within the State; the number of firms requested to tender for the supply of such turf; and the reason the present supplier's tender was accepted.
The rolled grass turf used in the grounds of the Custom House was supplied by a domestic subcontractor to the main contractor undertaking the restoration works to the building.
The selection of a domestic sub-contractor to undertake the work was a matter exclusively for the main contractor, and I am not in a position to say whether tenders were invited or why a particular subcontractor was appointed. I understand, however, that the sub-contractor is based within the State.
