56 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline the figure used as the national average family farm income.
The national average family farm income figure is provided by the annual Teagasc National Farm Survey, the most recent of which relates to 1989. This survey gives a provisional estimate of farm family income of £6,907 for that year. It must be emphasised that this figure relates exclusively to income earned from farm activities. This means that because the survey takes into account only the income derived from farming and in the case of the large number of part-time farmers does not include their off-farm incomes, the average income figure is lower than that actually received by farm families.
