Vol. 408 No. 6

Written Answers. - Tree Damage.

Michael Joe Cosgrave

Ceist:

71 Mr. Cosgrave asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the elm tree outside his office in the Custom House has wilted; whether the cause of the wilting is Dutch elm disease; whether it has affected other trees in the area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A number of diseased elm trees on the perimeter of the Custom House grounds were removed in recent years. The Office of Public Works have confirmed that an elm sapling in a shrubbery inside the grounds has also died due to the disease and are making arrangements to have it removed. The other two remaining elm trees in the grounds are not showing any signs of Dutch elm disease at present. They will, however, be monitored on a constant basis by the Office of Public Works.
