Vol. 408 No. 9

Written Answers. - LEADER Rural Development Scheme.

Joe Sherlock

Ceist:

36 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if his attention has been drawn to views expressed by the Irish Farmers' Association that the money allocated for the LEADER rural development scheme, will not be sufficient to deal with the difficulties facing Ireland's rural regions; if it is intended to seek any additional allocation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

When I announced the national arrangements for implementing LEADER on 6 May, I said Ireland's preliminary indicative amount from the fund is expected to be about £14 million. I also said I was confident that a greater allocation of EC funds would be obtained in the light of the high quality of the plans which I expect will be submitted by Ireland. This remains the position.
