Vol. 408 No. 9

Written Answers. - Celbridge (Kildare) School Facilities.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

92 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education whether she intends taking any initiative in the context of the Programme for Economic and Social Progress to provide extra facilities at St. Wolstan's Holy Faith secondary school, Celbridge, County Kildare in view of (a) the increasing demands of the area, (b) the inadequacy of the existing facilities, (c) the need to provide modern facilities for the education of the schoolgirls of the area in the future and (d) the need to respond to the consistent and legitimate submissions to her Department from the school authorities for the provision of extra facilities; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that the number in the Celbridge area seeking post-primary education is set to increase in the short term.

My Department have held several meetings with the authorities of St. Wolstan's Holy Faith secondary school, Celbridge, to discuss the provision of post-primary education in the area. These discussions are ongoing. My Department are also carrying out a major review of the centre to determine short, medium and long term post-primary requirements and how best the needs of the area can be met.
