44 Mr. Durkan asked the Taoiseach if he will list the items used in the determination of the consumer price index in the years, 1980, 1985 and 1990; if he will indicate the items or goods and services, if any, which have been added or deleted; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
The representative varieties of goods and services priced for the compilation of the consumer price index in the years 1980 685 varieties, 1985 722 varieties and 1990 807 varieties, are listed in March 1976, pages 9-13, March 1983, pages 9-13, and June 1990, pages 175-180, issues of the Statistical Bulletin.
Over the period 1980-85, 158 varieties were added and 121 varieties deleted. Over the period 1985-90, 98 varieties were added and 13 deleted. I am satisfied that in this manner the coverage of the index has been kept up to date.
