Vol. 411 No. 6

Written Answers. - Disease Free Status.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

93 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a person (details supplied) in County Kildare has been informed that following land acquisition in respect of the N4 bypass, her herd will have to share a common roadway with a neighbouring herd thereby causing loss of disease free status in the event of a Bovine TB outbreak even if her herd is disease free; and if he will change this regulation in her case or request the Minister for the Environment to provide a separate roadway for each herd in order to eliminate the problem.

I am informed by the director of ERAD that in circumstances where herds share a common slip-road it is usual for disease control purposes to treat such herds as a single unit.

The Minister for the Environment will reply separately in relation to his Department.
