Vol. 411 No. 6

Written Answers. - Treatment Delay.

Seán Ryan

Ceist:

119 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Health the reason for the delay in providing treatment for a person (details supplied) in County Dublin at Beaumont Hospital; his views on whether the inconvenience and hardship caused to this person is acceptable; and if he will give a commitment that the operation will now be carried out forthwith.

I do not consider it appropriate for me to comment on the clinical details of an individual patient. The decision with regard to when a patient will have his/her operation performed is a matter for the consultant concerned and the Deputy will appreciate that it is not a matter in which I have any involvement. However, I understand from Beaumont Hospital that the patient was to be admitted to the day ward on 8 October 1991. Unfortunately, his admission had to be cancelled due to the high level of emergency admissions to the hospital on that date, which I am sure the Deputy will realise must take precedence.

This patient has now been informed by the hospital that his admission has been re-arranged for Thursday, 31 October 1991.
