Vol. 411 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Leitrim School Transport.

John Ellis

Ceist:

191 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Education if her Department will now grant fare paying school transport facilities to a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim.

The student in question is ineligible, under the terms of the primary school transport scheme, for free transport to Ballinamore national school, her nearest school.

However, the Department is prepared to consider allowing her avail of concessionary fare-paying transport to Ballinamore national school subject to the availability of spare accommodation on the Ballinamore service.

Fare-paying tickets are issued on condition that spare accommodation exists after all fully eligible children have been accommodated. It is understood from Bus Éireann that accommodation is not currently available on the vehicle serving Ballinamore national school.

I will ask Bus Éireann to keep this case under review in view of the Deputy's interest in the matter.
