Vol. 412 No. 5

Written Answers. - Mountmellick (Laois) Pedestrian Crossing.

Charles Flanagan

Ceist:

152 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received a formal application for funds from Laois County Council in respect of the proposed erection of a pedestrian crossing at Lord Edward Street, Mountmellick, County Laois; and if consideration will be given towards making the appropriate funds available having regard to the dangers existing for school children in the area.

Proposals for the provision of a pelican crossing at Healions Corner, Mountmellick, County Laois, at the location of the existing warden controlled crossing, have been submitted by Laois County Council and are being examined. The cost of providing pedestrian facilities at this location would fall to be met from the council's discretionary grant for non-national roads which, in 1991, amounts to £1.745 million.
