Vol. 412 No. 5

Written Answers. - Refurbishment of Dublin Flats.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

169 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for the Environment if he will approve Dublin Corporation's request to extend the approval for the refurbishment of only eight flats at St. Joseph's Mansions to a greater and more economically viable number of units as it is four years since the Corporation wished to start on a pilot scheme of eight flats and at this stage the Corporation's view is that it is impractical and wasteful of resources.

The carrying out of a pilot scheme is the standard and agreed practice on remedial works projects so as to ensure that the Department, the local authority and the residents can assess the results achieved and make any necessary changes in later phases. The Department are, however, in communication with Dublin Corporation regarding the phasing of work on this estate and the authority's response is awaited.
