Vol. 412 No. 5

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

John Connor

Ceist:

134 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if all eligible farmers in areas where he has announced the extension of the more severely handicapped status will receive cattle headage payments and all other payments relevant to this status in 1991; and the present position on any Government discussions to increase the level of these grants to the maximum allowed under the EC Directive.

All eligible farmers in the new disadvantaged areas and in the areas newly reclassified as more severely handicapped will receive cattle headage and all other payments relevant to the status of the areas in which their holdings are situated for 1991. There is no proposal to increase the level of disadvantaged areas grants to the maximum allowed by the relevant EC Directive in view of the cost that would be involved in doing so. As soon as a final decision is taken on the precise details and timing of such increases as are possible, I will make the appropriate announcement.
