Vol. 413 No. 1

Written Answers. - Environmental Protection.

John V. Farrelly

Ceist:

124 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the serious increase in costs incurred by local authorities by legislation introduced on the monitoring and controlling of air, water, visual and industrial pollution; if he intends making a special allocation to the local authorities for the implementation of these directives; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Ongoing administrative expenditures of local authorities, including those related to pollution control, have not in general been directly assisted by State grants. There are no proposals to change the arrangements whereby these expenditures are financed from local authorities' own resources, supplemented by the rate supported grant from my Department.
