Vol. 413 No. 5

Written Answers. - FCA Changes.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

204 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Defence if he will confirm that major changes are imminent in the staffing and structure of FCA units; his views on whether (1) it is appropriate that senior FCA officers should have a consultative role in the developments being planned or (2) whether such matters should be the exclusive concern of the Permanent Defence Force officers attached temporarily to the FCA.

The report of the Gleeson Commission on Remuneration and Conditions of Service in the Defence Forces clearly underlined the desirability of examining the whole question of the deployment of personnel of the Permanent Defence Force. It is in this context that a rationalisation of FCA units is being considered by the military authorities. I will arrange for all interested parties to be consulted before any decisions are implemented arising from the current review.
