Vol. 413 No. 7

Written Answers. - Roscommon Schools Appointments.

John Connor

Ceist:

126 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Education if he has received an application for the appointment of a remedial teacher to service Athleague, Fuerty and Ballymurray national schools in County Roscommon; his views on whether this appointment is absolutely necessary; and if he will make a statement on his intention to sanction this appointment.

I have received a request for a remedial teacher from the schools in question.

As the Deputy will be aware, 80 additional remedial posts serving over 240 schools were allocated this year under arrangements under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress.

These appointments were made following the collection of data and information by my Department's primary inspectorate from schools. The posts were then allocated on the basis of priority of need, as indicated by the information collected by the inspectorate.

The needs of other schools, including the schools mentioned by the Deputy, will be kept under review.
