Since 1989 Structural Funds from the European Commission have provided very important underpinning for the industrial development programmes which are implemented by agencies under my Department. Significant new initiatives have taken place in the development of our science and technology infrastructure and in developing the marketing potential of indigenous firms. The programmes in question are set out in the Programme for Industrial Development, 1989-1993. The numerous individual projects undertaken under these programmes are in the main the responsibility of the agencies concerned.
