Vol. 413 No. 9

Written Answers. - Building Site Safety Inspections.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

165 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Labour if it is customary for the National Authority for Occupational Safety and Health to give prior notice to building contractors of their intention to inspect safety provisions/working conditions on building sites; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The policy of the National Authority for Occupational Safety and Health is not to give prior notice of inspections of building sites. On some occasions, following inspections, appointments may require to be made to ensure that necessary documentation can be seen or for discussions with appropriate members of management.

Ceist:

166 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Labour the total number of staff available to the National Health Authority for Occupational Safety and Health with responsibility for inspecting safety on building sites; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Five inspectors of the National Authority for Occupational Safety and Health are engaged on inspection duties in the construction industry sector. These inspectors are assisted as necessary by the authority's other inspection staff.
