Vol. 413 No. 9

Written Answers. - Whitegate/Whiddy Oil Terminals.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

170 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Energy whether he or his officials or the Irish National Petroleum Corporation have had discussions with Mexican interests in relation to the future of Whitegate oil refinery and Whiddy oil terminal; and the up-to-date position in relation to such discussions.

Officials of my Department have had a number of meetings with representatives of Mexican interests over the last 18 months. In April of this year representatives of Pemex interests were invited to visit Whitegate and Whiddy. This invitation was not taken up, but it is of course still open.

As I have already said in the Dáil, a particular project for Whitegate is under examination at present. However, I am open to receive any firm proposals for either the refinery or the terminal.
