Ceist:247 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Education if he proposes changing the present expensive and obsolete system of electing four graduates from University College Cork to the new governing body next January.
Written Answers. - Appointment of Governing Body of UCC.
The method of appointing the governing body is prescribed in paragraph (4) of section VII of the college's charter under the Irish Universities Act, 1908. Amendments to the Irish Universities Act 1908 will be necessary to implement proposals which the National University have for a revised structure for the university and their constituent colleges. The composition and appointment of governing bodies could be considered in this context in consultation with the appropriate authorities.
