Vol. 413 No. 9

Written Answers. - Youth Organisations Funding.

Mary Coughlan

Ceist:

254 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Education if he will outline the amount of money allocated to each youth organisation by his Department since 1988 and if it is proposed to change his Department's policy in relation to youth matters and organisational funding.

It would take an inordinate amount of time to produce the information sought by the Deputy on the amount of money allocated to each youth organisation since 1988 and I would not consider it appropriate to divert staff for this purpose from other more urgent work. However, I would refer the Deputy to, (1) the Annual Reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts for the years concerned which give details of the latest available audited accounts of expenditure in respect of youth services: and to (2) the Beneficiary Compendium compiled by the national lottery which gives details of the allocation and amounts paid in respect of youth organisations and of individual projects for disadvantaged youth.

The Department's policy in relation to youth matters is under continuing review. I have no plans at present to make major changes in policy or in organisational funding in this area.
